So, the Amigo and I are still together. Things are good relationship wise, but his struggles with school, immigration, and the limited work he can do, has him basically at the end of the road.
So, I had a decision to make.
There's one thing I could do that would allow him to stay, finish school, and start earning some money.
But, did I really want to take that step, or should I say plunge.
No, not really. I never really saw the point of marriage, and if it were not for this predicament, I wouldn't really even consider it.
But......Here we are.
I want to give details, but then again I don't. I will say, I had considered it for a long time. It finally came down to the fact that I still want the Amigo in my life. I feel like we aren't through yet, I don't know where the journey will end, but for now, I'm enjoying the journey, and I want it to continue, so there was only one option.
Wish me luck everyone. I think the next time I blog, I will have a "husband."

ReplyDeleteSo old queer married guy here. 35 years with my husband and we got legally married as soon as it got legal here in 2008 ( yeah, we're 1 of the 18,000 couples that got married in the window prior to prop h8). My mother way back when kept asking why do you have to call it marriage? The reason is for our own rights and protection, one one of those is keeping the person you love in the country with you. I went through my husband's heart attack before we got married. Had I not had the durable power of attorney for health care in my hand, I would not have been able to speak for him when he couldn't speak for himself. Without that I would not have been his spouses, but an unrelated roommate.
ReplyDeleteOh and by the way, we were at mom's for Thanksgiving; I overheard her on the phone saying, "no Shirley, I'm not free to play cards this week; my son & son-in-law are here."
